Some Of My Favorite Herbs

Mentha piperita

Peppermint is popular in countless forms, from toothpaste to chewing gum. As an essential oil, it is useful to ease breathing and as a digestive aid. Peppermint is a wonderfully versatile essential oil and should be included in everyone’s home. Peppermint is useful for stomach upset and it is very cooling. It helps with headaches and with respiratory difficulties.

Peppermint brings joy and buoyancy to the heart. It is invigorating and can remind individuals that life can be happy.

Peppermint is part of the allergy trio – combined with Lemon and Lavender it is used for all types of allergies and histamine problems.

For aromatic, topical, or dietary use.

Origanum vulgare

Hippocrates, the father of medicine, used oregano as a cleansing agent as well as for digestive and respiratory support. High in antioxidant activity, oregano contains phenolic acids and flavonoids. Oregano is often referred to as “medicine cabinet in a bottle”. It can be used for many first aid applications and also as an internal GI cleanse agent. Oregano is very intense and MUST be diluted if used on the skin.

Oregano is a found in the “FLU BOMB” preparation – and is a powerful immunity booster.

Oregano provides emotional support by inviting individuals to dispel materialism and attachments that hinder growth and progress.

For aromatic, topical, or dietary use (dilute when using topically and use a gelcap when taking orally).

Commiphora myrrha

Historically, myrrh has been used in many ways, from meditation to embalming in ancient Egypt. Modern herbalists frequently recommend myrrh for its cleansing properties, especially for the mouth and throat. Myrrh is also excellent for calming the skin.

Myrrh has properties that help with increasing the appetite, as well as other digestive issues. It is also very good with the skin, including fighting fungal infections such as athlete’s foot and ringworm. Use Myrrh on skin conditions from wounds to wrinkles.

Myrrh helps individuals to feel the loving presence of maternal figures. It helps the soul to feel more safe and to learn to trust.

For aromatic or topical use.

Melissa officinalis

This is one of the most expensive and rare essential oils, Melissa essential oil has a sweet, fresh, citrus-like fragrance and is steam distilled from the fresh flowering tops, leaves and stems of the Melissa officinalis plant. With a wide range of therapeutic properties, Melissa can be used for calming the nerves, addressing stomach discomfort, mood support, and seasonal bugs. Because the Melissa plant has an oil yield of less than 1/10 of 1%, it is one of the most commonly adulterated oils.

Melissa has been called “liquid gold” due to the look and also the value of this oil. It has been used to promote fertility and for all kinds of infections. Melissa is a great rejuvenator and helps to bring awakening to the soul.

For aromatic, topical, or internal use.

Melaleuca alternifolia

Recognized by its more common name “tea tree”, melaleuca has been revered for its cleansing and regenerative properties, especially for the skin. Composed of more than ninety different compounds, melaleuca has limitless therapeutic applications.

Melaleuca is helpful for all things related to the skin. It can be used for acne, cuts, wounds and skin infections. Melaleuca has 12 times the antiseptic power of Phenol and also strong immune building properties.

10 Healthy Food Swaps

Trying to eat healthier doesn’t have to be rocket science — here are 10 healthy food swaps you can make and hardly notice the difference!

1. Swap that bagel for a whole wheat English muffin – and since English muffins don’t NEED cream cheese (like bagels do) – replace the cream cheese with a tablespoon of nut butter and some sliced strawberries.

2. Greek Yogurt instead of milk – need something to put on your morning granola? Opt for 1/2 cup Greek yogurt instead of the milk. You get more than twice the protein without adding any additional calories.

3. Instead of fruit juice – only eat fresh fruit. We all know fruit juice is just sugar anyway – just eat the fruit. You get the benefit of  the fiber and it is more satisfying.

4. Use wraps instead of bread – the wraps are only 100 calories and come in all sorts of grain varieties.

5. Instead of crackers – use apple or cucumber slices. Crackers are just the vehicle, right? So, why not have a healthy vehicle to eat with your healthy dips and artisan cheeses.

6. Instead of milk chocolate, choose dark chocolate, because, well, dark chocolate. You get less sugar and more anti-oxidants per ounce and a little can be very satisfying for your sweet tooth.

7. Instead of a bran muffin, choose a bowl of Raisin Bran. You will save additional calories and benefit from extra protein if you eat the Raisin Bran with Greek yogurt.

8. Instead of a cinnamon roll, toast 2 slices of cinnamon swirl bread and enjoy! You are not choosing a straight up healthy option, but when the need for a cinnamon roll hits – you have a healthy and satisfying option.

9. Instead of butter and syrup on your pancakes, make a lightly sweetened fruit puree with strawberries or raspberries and eat up! You won’t miss the syrup at all, fruit is a terrific addition to your pancake breakfast. If you miss the creamy butter, add a few pecans and some Greek yogurt.

10. Instead of sausage patties, fry up some center cut bacon – that’s right bacon.  You can still be seduced by salty, fatty breakfast pork from time to time. Center-cut bacon has only 25 calories per slice. It still has nearly 200mg sodium, though, so indulge in moderation.

Every food choice we make is getting us either closer to healthy or further away. By making little changes into a healthy lifestyle we have a much greater chance of staying healthy long term. So, eat up, but be nice to yourself along the way.

5 Essential Oils for healthy hair

We all want healthy hair, it gives our overall appearance such a lift. Healthy hair is a reflection of your overall well-being as well. Take care of your hair naturally with these essential oils.

1. Lavender – for all things skin and hair! Lavender is useful for hair and scalp health, and also for hair loss.

2. Rosemary – has a warming effect on the skin, also clarifies and conditions.

3. Thyme – stimulate hair growth and clear up the scalp.

4. Lemon – allows the hair to detox and gives a natural highlight.

5. Cypress – increases circulation to the scalp to aid in stimulating hair growth

You can apply these oils a couple of different ways. First, just take the oils you want and put a few drops in your hands and run through your hair and scalp. Essential oils are not oily or greasy. They don’t have the lipid profile we usually think of as oils. The hair will not be greasy after applying 100% PURE essential oils. If your oils are adulterated, the filler will leave a greasy film on your hair.

The second way to apply the oils to your hair is to add a few drops to your shampoo or conditioner. Add 1-2 drops essential oil to about 2 TBS shampoo or conditioner and use as normal.

You will love the way your hair feels and you will also love the fresh, clean smell of the essential oils.

10 Great Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is cheap, natural and a wonderful addition to your healthy home – here are 10 ways I use ACV every day!

Apple cider vinegar has been used in healthy homes for ages. I frequently take apple cider vinegar shots  for a quick and effective energy burst. However, I’ve since discovered so many other useful ways to incorporate apple cider vinegar (ACV) into my daily routine.

It’s effective for pretty much anything—your skin, your hair, your house, and even your pets can benefit from its qualities. Apple cider vinegar is so much more than a salad dressing!

1. Apple cider vinegar can detoxify your home.

It’s made from apple juice and is fermented to hard apple cider. It’s then fermented a second time to become apple cider vinegar. By using ACV in lieu of other products, we instantly decrease the consumption of unnatural chemicals in our homes and daily lives. ACV is a wonderful natural cleaner for counters and floors in your kitchen and bathrooms. It is even effective at cleaning toilets. Reduce the toxins in your home by using ACV instead of harsh chemicals. Use ACV full strength for disinfecting, and you can use it half strength for glass, microwaves and the fridge. Add a few drops of Lemon essential oil for a pleasant small and additional cleaning properties.

2. It can make your hair shine.

Apple cider vinegar can be used as a rinse for your hair after shampooing, and will boost your hair’s body and shine, and will remove residue. I recommend recycling an old shampoo bottle, then filling it with 1/2 a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a cup of cold water and 10 drops Lavender essential oil. Pour the solution through your hair after shampooing several times a week for dramatic results.

3. Natural apple cider vinegar regulates the pH of your skin.

Dilute ACV with two parts water, and spread the concoction over your face with a cotton ball to replace your current toner. You can do this at night after washing, and in the morning before you apply your moisturizer. A dab of apple cider vinegar can also be left on the skin overnight to fade age spots or acne scars.

It’s also a recommended agent for warts. For warts, soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar, then fasten the cotton ball over the wart with a Band-Aid overnight. The skin may swell some as it reacts with the solution. However, the wart will fall off. Once it falls off, the treatment should be continued for a few more days, to make sure the wart doesn’t return.

4. It can soothe sunburns.

Add a cup of apple cider vinegar to your bath, and soak for 10 minutes to eliminate discomfort from sunburn.

5. It’s an all-natural massage treatment.

Adding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to your natural message lotion will give you extra benefits. Rub this on your hands and feet and you will get relief from aches and swelling.

6. Apple cider vinegar can aid in weight loss.

For daily weight management, add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to 16 ounces of water along with your Slim & Sassy essential oil blend. This concoction can be sipped throughout the day. Data shows some limited, yet significant, weight loss benefits from sustained daily intake of acetic acid (which is a main ingredient in apple cider vinegar).

In a 2009 study published in Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, it was found that subjects that consumed acetic acid for 12 weeks experienced significant declines in body weight, abdominal fat, waist circumference and triglycerides. Triglycerides contribute to the bad cholesterol that we want to avoid.

7. It can help you detox.

As part of balancing the body’s pH, apple cider vinegar creates an overall detoxification of the body. Research shows that it can help stimulate cardiovascular circulation and help detoxify the liver.

8. ACV is great for your lymphatic system.

This miracle vinegar helps to break up mucous throughout the body and cleanse the lymph nodes. Believe it or not, research suggests that apple cider vinegar can help with allergies because of its ability to reduce mucous and sinus congestion. When reducing the effects of allergies, it can also help stave off sinus infections and their related symptoms, such as sore throats and headaches.

9. ACV can help you reduce heartburn.

Though it might seem like an oxymoron to treat stomach acid with an acid-containing vinegar, there is research suggesting that apple cider vinegar works by correcting low acid, hence reducing heartburn. My mom has used this remedy for years. Natural remedy experts say you should begin to feel relief very shortly after taking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar followed by a glass of water. Note that apple cider vinegar will not give relief if you have an ulcer.

10. The use of apple cider vinegar is effective in repelling fleas on your pets.

One part vinegar and one part water can be sprayed on your pets fur and rubbed in generously to the skin. For an extra boost, add a few drops of TerraShield repellent blend. Saturate the entire coat, and continue every day for a few days to a week. Any flea infestation will surely be gone.

Essential Oils

Our current medical system is
NOT WORKING – and, it’s getting worse, not better!

Who agrees with me?

Have you spent years trying to figure out what you can and cannot eat because you’re embarrassed by gas, bloating or other digestive issues?  I did.  For years I suffered from heartburn and was taking prescription acid blockers almost every day. I healed my stomach problems with essential oils. Are you popping pills to relax or to sleep at night? My daughter suffered from bad dreams and sleepwalking her whole life – now she sleeps like a baby with essential oils.

Are you wondering why, after countless doctor visits, your eczema won’t go away? My other daughter has random rashes all the time, now we treat them more effectively with essential oils. Are you tired of staying home with your kids with all their flus, colds, sore throats or head lice?  It’s the worst when you have to take the day off from work for something like this? Are you sick of taking anti-biotics for sinus infections and sore throats, knowing full well they are ruining  your digestive system and killing  your liver?  I was.  And now that I know what I know -NEVER AGAIN!   These are some of the most common buggers that may send you or your family to the doctor, who then prescribes a synthetic medication.  The synthetic medication will eventually have a side effect which will produce another ailment and then another side effect which can ultimately be worse than the original reason you even sought care!

And do you know what the number one drug problem is in our country?

It’s not the illegal use of street drugs as you may think.  It’s prescription medications with the biggest users being women between the ages of 25- 50 years old and children between the ages of 5-7 years old!

doterra Hayley Hobson

Our current medical system is medicating our country instead of getting to the root of why our bodies are imbalanced, inflamed and diseased.

Pure therapeutic grade essential oils are a natural, less expensive, safer alternative to traditional Western medication and the endless pills piling up in your home.  It’s true.  Try this on for size:  One – two drops of Melaleuca essential oil will get rid of an ear infection instantaneously (29 cents) whereas a week of antibiotics costs….???… and destroys your gut.   Essential oils are made from plants, not in a laboratory, so you can truly feel good sharing them with your sick or injured loved ones.  Even my husband, the total non-believer has been converted.  And my two teenage daughters – they get ready for bed at night and say “Mom, we are ready for oils!” I love that they are learning to be proactive in their own health – and I love the bonding time we share together with nightly foot rubs.

Essential oils will not only help you get rid of your headache, but they can also most definitely help promote relaxation, digestion, insomnia, canker sores, bug bites, nausea, immune support and so much more.

Take your health care into your own hands.  If you don’t, who else will?   You can heal yourself with natural products.

Why You Should Use Essential Oils

Essential Oils Are Unique, Powerful and they Kick A%#!

Essential oils are concentrated, hydrophobic liquids or compounds that are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers and other parts of plant. Once extracted, the oils carry the distinctive scent or essence of their plant. Essential oils can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. If you have experienced walking through a lavender field or rose garden, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. However, in addition to giving plants their unique and distinctive smells, essential oils also have hundreds of therapeutic and even medicinal qualities.

Everyone’s Using Essential Oils

We have known about essential oils for hundreds of years.  The use of essential oils goes back as far as the Egyptian and Greek cultures. The Romans, Chinese and Indian cultures soon followed. In our modern world, essential oils were discovered by the French culture in the late 1930’s and since then, essential oils have had a wide-spread use in aromatherapy practices.  They why don’t we know more in our country?  Especially when ….

Our nation has the highest rate of heart disease, type two diabetes, child obesity and cancer in the world.

doterra slim & sassy Hayley Hobson

So why aren’t we using them in our culture as much as other cultures are?  And still spending 4.5 trillion dollars a year in global health-care?   We aren’t educated about them! But now-a-days people like me are looking for a more holistic approach to self-care. Many alternative health practitioners including doctors, nurses, osteopaths, chiropractors, nutritionists and health coaches are driving the rediscovery of the profound health benefits of essential oils.

It’s So Easy To Use Essential Oils

There are so many ways that essential oils can be used or administered. You can apply a single oil or in a complex blend depending on your desired benefits. Essential oils are usually administered by one of three methods: diffused aromatically, applied topically, or taken internally as dietary supplements.

Diffuse Them In The Air

Our sense of smell is the only one of our five senses that is directly related to our brain. All of our other senses are routed first through the thalamus and then directed to the cerebral cortex and other brain regions. With that said, our sense of smell has the biggest influence on many physiological pathways including the stimulation of hormones and other metabolic processes.   Are you exhausted?  Inhale Peppermint for 30 seconds.  Depressed?  Inhale Wild Orange.  Trouble sleeping?  Diffuse Lavender and Roman Chamomile by your bed.   Watch the beauty of what happens.   Aromatherapy has thus been founded upon our bodies predicted response to this kind of stimuli. In addition to the emotional benefits, diffusing essential oils can purify the air of unwanted odors and many airborne pathogens. Essential oils can also be used as cleansing and purifying additives to laundry and surface cleaners throughout the home.

Put Them On Your Skin

Essential oils are easily absorbed by the skin and can safely be applied topically. Application of essential oils has immediate, localized benefits to whatever area you are applying and targeting. If you burn your skin, apply lavender right away and watch it disappear. They also have calming and restorative properties and can be used effectively to help you relax or as an enhancement to your massage and beauty therapy practices. Trouble sleeping?.  Try Balance on your feet.  Frankincense on your belly.  Lavender on your neck. The chemical structure of essential oils also allows them to be absorbed immediately into your bloodstream via your skin for internal benefit’s throughout your entire the body. They are also natural disinfectants.

Ingest Them

Essential oils can also be used to cook with to make delicious, flavorful recipes and as dietary supplements supporting a variety of healthy conditions. Some essential oils have powerful antioxidant properties while others help support healthy inflammatory response in cells. Many essential oils are generally regarded as being safe for dietary use, but some oils should not be taken internally. When ingesting essential oils, be sure to consult with a certified product distributor or take a look at the A-Z Guide (which can be found at www.myoilbusiness. com and

It’s Super Important That Your Oils Are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade

I use certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils because I believe they are the safest, purest, and most beneficial oils to use. Because of their gentle and skillful extraction and distillation from plants that have been patiently harvested at the perfect moment by experienced growers from around the world for ideal extract composition and efficacy, they are, in my opinion, the best on the market.

Adrenal Fatigue – easy natural remedies

At the beginning of this summer I was tired. I know many of you can relate, in fact – the majority of women will suffer with adrenal fatigue at some point in adulthood. I am not talking about the tired that comes from a hard day of work, or staying up too late. I am talking about the kind of tired that has no explanation. My personality leads me to be driven and energetic, but for several months I struggled with simple every day tasks.

Housework and errands piled up and even getting myself ready for the day seemed impossible. There were days when I just wanted to stay in my room. Then I found an article that I thought described me perfectly — she was talking about ADRENAL FATIGUE.

The symptoms of adrenal fatigue are pretty specific – do you have days like this:

  • Weight gain
  • Foggy – lack of focus – poor memory
  • Salt cravings – love the taste of salty things
  • Muscle weakness – worn out from exercise
  • Sleep problems – tired during the day
  • Anxiety or depression

The reason adrenal fatigue is so common is simple – lifestyle. We have a go-go-go society and when we expect our bodies to function at top speed with little nutritional support – our adrenals get overloaded and worn out. High energy and a good mood depends on the proper functioning of our adrenal glads. When we have a lot of stress, and we never get a break – our adrenals never catch a break either. They become overworked and that leads to fatigue, weight gain, and mental and sleep problems.

Treatment for adrenal fatigue is a fairly simple protocol. You don’t have to completely change your lifestyle. With a few small, simple additions, you can support those adrenals and get your toxic system back in balance. These are EASY solutions to a chronic problem that affects thousands of women. Get the word out and help your sisters overcome this very common and very treatable problem.

1. Add Chlorella Powder — this combined with the Clove oil below will help over 90% of the time. It is very nutritious, has vitamin C which is critical for adrenal function. Take at least 3 grams daily and make sure it says “broken cell wall” on the label. This is a good choice from Amazon:

2. Take an Omega supplement – I like the one that is included in the Doterra Live Long Vitality supplement pack –

3. Clove and Rosemary essential oils – The adrenal glands are right on top of the kidneys. Take 2 drops of Clove essential oil and 1 drop of Rosemary and rub over the area on the lower back over the kidneys. Take a towel with very warm water and place over the area to drive the oils in. If you want to cover the entire lower back, mix the essential oils with a little coconut oil to help cover a large area. Relax and breathe deeply while you enjoy the warm towel on your back. Take a few minutes to meditate and be calm.

4. Laugh a little – seriously! Researchers at Loma Linda University in CA have discovered that watching humorous videos for 20 minutes can drop your levels of cortisol significantly. Check out funny videos on YouTube and your brain will thank you for it.

That’s it, 4 really easy steps. You can make these small changes and they will make a huge difference with your overworked adrenals. This really is a game changer for women who have suffered with glandular difficulties for way to long.
